Everyone involved in our critical risk operations is empowered to have a positive influence on how we do the work. Rather than reacting to problems, our critical risk control cycle is designed to seek out potential problems before they arise. In this way we can maximize not only the likelihood of ‘right first time’ success of our activities, we can also maximize the learning that comes from each cycle.

The concept is simple. Our engineering and design processes work in tandem with our early ‘high risk review’ process or HRR - a hazard and operability review of an activity involving one or more of our defined critical risks in good time before the work is due to begin. Redesign or re-engineering may be required from the findings of the HRR and this should continue until the safest method of work is agreed upon by everyone involved in the process. Every activity that has undergone an HRR will be subject to a ‘problem seeking’ monitoring and review activity to identify any ‘black holes’ or potential risks that may have been missed, or have evolved during the work process. These activities are collaborative and involve the workforce and management actively in identifying what is going well, as well as what could be improved.
